The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration has compiled relevant information on Novel Influenza A(H1N1), based on the latest DOH advisories and guidance from authoritative sources, such as WHO and the US-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to help overseas workers make informed decisions on this public health concern.
OWWA is taking this step, and others, such as disseminating relevant information and installing hand sanitizer dispensers at its central office premises, as the Department of Health (DOH) bolstered its mitigation efforts in anticipation of more A(H1N1) cases in the country.
On June 11, 2009, the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) raised the worldwide pandemic alert level to Phase 6 in response to the ongoing global spread of Novel Influenza A(H1N1), which indicates that a global pandemic is underway.
Because of the local spread of Influenza A(H1N1), cautionary measures are no longer limited to persons who have undertaken international travel, but should likewise be observed by those who may have been to places within the country where community outbreaks have been recorded.
