New Show Centering on OFWs

Tele-viewers of QTV 11 witnessed the first airing of “Mga Waging Kuwento ng OFW” MOFYA TV Series last Sunday, October 28, 2007 at 11 A.M. The initial episode is about “ANICIA ABRERA ALVAREZ, Region IX, Winner, 2005 MOFYA” from which the story of Glenn Sta. Maria, Computer Technician, Singapore was based.

The format of utilizing a story that relates to the real-life story of a winner of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration’s (OWWA) Model OFW of the Year Awards (MOFYA) is rather refreshing as it deviates from the typical re-enactment or straight-out portrayal of just another true-to-life drama that viewers have become used to.

It offers a more reflective approach to the life lessons one can learn from a MOFYA Awardee which teaches the tele-viewers how to adopt the same lessons in their lives.
For the first episode, Ian de Leon led the cast as Glenn; supported by Krista Ranillo who played his wife, Liza and BJ “Tolits” Forbes as their son, LG. De Leon proved to be effective in his role who never fails to delight the viewers.

A welcome portion of the show is the major role of OWWA Administrator Marianito Roque as the host/narrator, presenting the featured story of the episode and providing the link to the life story of a MOFYA Awardee. Last Sunday’s episode, focus had been on the value of education, hard work and maintaining family solidarity—lessons exemplified by 2005 MOFYA winner Anicia Abrera Alvarez who is a true advocate of Education.

“Mga Waging Kuwento ng OFW” MOFYA TV Series is produced by Segments and Clips Productions, Inc. (SACi), the same company that brought us Dahil Sa Iyong Paglisan (Pamilyang OFW) that likewise aired in QTV which had been nominated for Best Drama Program in the 29th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA); Best Drama Anthology and Best Single Performance by an Actress for Ms. Jacklyn Jose in the episode, "Wally: Seaman, Greece" in the 2007 PMPC Star Awards.

For “Mga Waging Kuwento ng OFW” MOFYA TV Series, SACi adopted OWWA’s “Tuloy-Aral Project” (TAP) as its beneficiary. The show will be on every Sunday 11-12 a.m. over QTV 11 till Januray 20,2008.
