COTABATO CITY - Over 500 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families attended this year’s Migrant Workers’ Day Celebration held in Matanog, Maguindanao on May 25, 2017.

Members of the OFW Family Circles (OFC) attended the fun-filled day with raffle draws, zumba, games and cultural presentations.

This annual event organized by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration - (OWWA-ARMM) is aimed to pay tribute to the unparalleled sacrifices of OFWs around the globe and to recognize their valuable efforts to their families and the country.

In the opening salvo, the celebration was boosted with the “Hataw” zumba dance workout led by the Iranun Foundation College, Inc. (IFCI).

Administrator Mala D. Lidasan of Matanog, Maguindanao welcomed all the guests and participants.

OWWA-ARMM Regional Director Amy B. Crisosotomo said, “We DARE because we care. The declaration of Martial Law did not hinder us to conduct this advance celebration of Migrant Workers Day. We stand firm with our commitment to serve and help the OFWS and their families and promote peace and ease the ongoing tension in the community”.

Atty. Mohammad-Ali S. Guro, Mayor of Matanog, Maguindanao served as the keynote speaker during the program. Mayor Guro pledged for their full support to OWWA’s mandate of protecting the rights and welfare of OFWs.

Municipal officials and other local officials also joined the celebration.

17th Infantry Battalion, Commander Lt. Col. Florencio Politud Jr. also graced the occasion. Together with his troop, they heavily guarded the area to assure everyone's safety.

As part of the program, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth-ARMM), one of OWWA’s partner agencies, gave the participants a brief lecture on its programs and services and also umbrellas as mementos.
