With the theme “We Serve, We Care. 35 Years of Helping OFWs and Their Families”, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office – National Capital Region (OWWA RWO-NCR) joined the celebration of the 35th founding anniversary of OWWA at Palacio de Maynila on 2 May 2017.

The celebration started with a Thanksgiving Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Anton Cecilio T. Pascual at the Manila Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica. His homily centered on the importance of the welfare of the OFWs. “Para saan at kanino ka nagtratrabaho? Dapat nagtratrabaho ka para sa welfare ng mga kababayan nating OFW at sa mga pamilya nila,” Rev. Fr. Pascual said.

He also said that “OWWA is not just an infrastructure but is a community of people working together with a common and united goal and aspiration to make the lives of our OFWs and their families easier and to make their experience, to and from overseas employment, a “worthy journey”.

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III also graced the event. In his congratulatory speech Sec. Bello said that OWWA should always prioritize the welfare of the OFWs, “OWWA was born for our OFWs kaya sila ang dapat nating alagaan. Even in our own inconvenience and expense let us see to it that the people whom this organization was created for, ang dapat nating bigyang prayoridad. Walang ibang dapat isipin kung di ang kalagayan at welfare ng ating mga OFWs.” He also encouraged everyone to help each other out, “Let us work together and help each other do our mandate for our clientele, the OFWs.”
