Aspiring applicants in Region VI vie for EDSP scholarship slots

A total of four hundred sixty eight OFW dependents took the OWWA Education for Development Scholarship Program qualifying exam held last September 21, 2014 and administered by the Department of Science and Technology. The examinees are fourth year high school students belonging to the upper 20 percent of the graduating class.


The Region VI examination was held in the following venues per province:



Antique – St. Anthony’s College

Aklan – ABL Sports Complex

Capiz – Social Hall, Capiz State University

Guimaras – Guimaras State College (Mosqueda Campus)

Negros Occidental – Technological University of the Philippines – Visayas (Talisay City)

Iloilo City and Municipalities – Western Visayas College of Science and Technology


The province and city of Iloilo have a total of 233 examination takers. Some 142 applicants came from Negros Occidental; 33 from Aklan; 23 from Antique; 22 from Aklan; and 15 from Guimaras.


Last year 19 students from region 6 qualified as one of the 200 nationwide EDSP scholars for the school year 2014-2015.


Under the EDSP, qualified scholars will be awarded with an educational assistance amounting to P60,000.00 per school year for a four to five-year baccalaureate degree in any college or university of their choice.
